KARIN LAWSON AS JANET JACKSON - BIO
Committed to performing every detail of her tribute, Karin Lawson was involved in every aspect of the development of her show from choreography to costuming. Details that did not go unnoticed by Janet Jackson, herself. In 2010, Karin was given the honor of becoming the world's only authorized Janet Jackson tribute artist.
Growing up in Denver Colorado, Karin remembers being inspired by artists like Sammy Davis Jr. and Donny Osmond, and if she were really lucky, she could catch an old Josephine Baker flick on television and dance around the living room. Even at age four Karin knew what she wanted to do in life. She sang and danced throughout her school years all the way to the University of Kansas where she studied theater, arts and film. Karin was also a prestigious collegiate cheerleader at the University and upon graduation became a professional NFL cheerleader as a featured member of the Kansas City Chiefs cheerleading squad.
When Karin arrived in Las Vegas she began working almost immediately in various shows along the strip, finally ending up in "Legends in Concert" as a dancer. Inspired by the other highly talented cast members, Karin began working on her tribute to Janet Jackson, a performer she highly respects and admires. Karin feels her dedication to excellence and willingness to work parallel that of Jackson.
Karin was finally given her shot at portraying Jackson when she was asked to perform in Legends in Concert at Universal Studios, Japan. Her spectacular tribute has also taken her to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Bermuda, California, Mexico and Myrtle Beach. Just to name a few. She also has been featured on national television shows like Ellen DeGeneres and Maury Povich.
Karin is one of only two (out of many) tribute artists to be selected by Walt Disney Productions to headline their annual “Sounds Like Summer” series for two consecutive seasons at EPCOT in 2010 AND 2011.
When asked, what do you like best about portraying Janet Jackson? Ms. Lawson replied, "Being able to embrace the singing and dancing. But more importantly, just having fun with the audience."
In addition to her solo show, Karin co-stars with Michael Jackson tribute artist (Antonio) in the touring theatrical production, “Jackson Live! (The Fantasy Concert That Never Was)"
