THE HOO BIO
The HOO are long time veterans of the Bay Area music scene. Over the years, the members have played in several different groups notably The Rubinoos, Earthquake, Psycotic Pineapple, Big Bang Beat, Mersey Beach, and Snakefinger. They are big time fans of Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, and Roger Daltrey collectively known to fans worldwide as the Who (naturally!). The HOO do their best to nail the spirit and the energy of the Who in their 1960s - early 70s prime. For several years now, they have played concerts building a hardcore following of Who fans. As the HOO Al, Steve, and John are having the time of their lives playing the music of the Who.
John Seabury (bass, vocals) has been playing concerts since his early days with the Psycotic Pineapple, Snakefinger, and the late, great Muscletones. Like John Entwistle, John plays a Fender Precision bass guitar - loud and lots of treble! John is also an incredible Grammy nominated graphic artist that has done work for Rhino Records, the legendary Fillmore, and countless now-collectible concert posters including flyers for the HOO. He is a featured artist in the book, The Art Of Rock.
Steve Nelson (drums) was founding drummer with Beserkley Records' rockers Earthquake. He was lucky enough to have witnessed historic early shows by the Who at the Berkeley Community Theatre, the Fillmore West, and Winterland. Back in the late 70s, he played sessions with Earthquake at the Who's Ramport Studios. Keith Moon has been a driving influence on Steve's drumming technique since day one. He plays the Who's material with the same wild abandon and controlled chaos that has many people wondering if Keith Moon hasn't left the building.
Al Chan (vocals, guitar) hails from San Jose, CA. This Hawaiian guy's been a big Who fan ever since he saw Roger, Pete, John, and Keith rock San Francisco's Winterland. Al's vocals and guitar channel the power of the HOO. Al also leads a triple life playing bass and singing with power-poppers the Rubinoos and also from time to time with Little Roger and the Goosebumps (yes, the guys who did Stairway To Gilligan's Island and got sued by Led Zeppelin!).
